They hyped enthusiasm

until we all went off it.

 

They placed originality

under microscopes,

and came up with a formula

 conformists understood.

 

They ridiculed each sunrise mind,

each solstice look,

each best day thought,

each tuneful hook.

 

Like each Gorgon turned to stone,

concrete characters have grown -

influencing how we think,

until free thoughts are all extinct.
